How do citizens use Government Online?

- Information Seeking continues to be the major Government Online service used by New Zealanders (38% in 2003 and 36% in 2002) - citizens using a Government website to get information. There was a significant increase in the proportion of New Zealanders Downloading forms to later submit by post or fax (to 16% from 12% in 2002), Consulting with government by using the Internet to express a point of view or participate in community consultations (9% from 4% in 2002), and using to Transact - pay for Government services or products involving the use of a credit card or bank account number - (11% from 6% in 2002). Although not a significant increase, more New Zealanders are also providing personal details over the Internet to government - Providers (10% from 8% in 2002).

- Incidence remains higher among those who have used the Internet in the past month. 14% of Internet users had Transacted with government over the Internet, 14% had Provided personal details, 12% had used Consulted with government, 21% had Downloaded forms and half (50%) had used to Internet to look for Information from government. 41% of Internet users had not used any Government Online service.
