Use of interactive online services by region and

New Zealanders living in...

- Wellington were significantly more likely to have used online banking (56%), to sign up and receive automated news (44%), and to have shopped online (32%) than New Zealanders from other regions. They were significantly less likely to have never used the Internet (7%).

- Other areas of the North Island (than Wellington and Auckland) were significantly less likely than others to have used any of the interactive services - online banking (30%), sign up or receive automated news (23%), pay bills (19%), or shopped online (15%). They were significantly more likely to have never used the Internet (32%).

- Other areas of the South Island (outside of Christchurch) were significantly less likely to have signed up or received automated news (14%).

- There were no significant differences among New Zealanders living in Auckland or Christchurch.

Ethnicity

- New Zealanders of Asian ethnicity were significantly more likely to have signed up or received automated news than other (43%).

- There were no other significant differences among ethnic groups.
