Updated Web Guidelines available
March 2003
Version 2.1 of the New Zealand Government Web Guidelines is now available on the e-government website. This version incorporates feedback on a draft released for public comment in October 2002.
A reference group comprising agency and industry representatives reviewed relevant feedback and recommended amendments to the E-government Unit as custodian of the Guidelines.
Version 2.1 has new guidelines on
Version 2.1 of the Guidelines will be considered as a whole-of-government standard for the development, management and delivery of public sector websites. The Guidelines will continue to be voluntary beyond the Public Service, although the number of local authorities and Crown entities that have already adopted the Guidelines as a development standard is encouraging.
The new version of the Guidelines will continue to raise awareness of the importance of accessibility for public sector websites and provide practical ways to achieve this consistently across government. A number of agencies that followed the first version of the Guidelines to redevelop their sites have produced examples of accessibility that rank alongside many sites internationally.
