New Zealand IT company to host new government portal

19 Dec 2001

The government's new portal, being developed as part of the e-government programme for launch in July 2002 will be hosted by a New Zealand company, Datacom Systems Ltd. The service will be hosted at Datacom's data center in Auckland, with a fully operational backup site in Wellington.

Ensuring the confidentiality, integrity and availability of the services to be delivered through the portal, was one of the key requirements of the successful tenderer. The portal will be used to direct people looking for government information and services to the appropriate government website. The new portal will encompass functions of the existing portal, known as NZGO (www.govt.nz) and significantly enhanced topic based and life event based searching.

The Department of Internal Affairs established the NZGO portal in 1997. Responsibility for it was transferred to the State Services Commission last year.
