E-awareness Final Results
- Within this section:
- Summary
- Background
Data collection for e-awareness Round 2 took place during October, 2003. Both Public Service and non-Public Service departments participated in the survey. The second round of data collection builds on Round 1, to enable an analysis of trends.
Public Service departments completed e-awareness Round 1 in December, 2002. Interim Round 1B was opened in between formal rounds in April and July, 2003.
Summary
Most agencies surveyed have changed their internal strategies to meet the E-government Strategy. An increasing number of agencies are incorporating e-government standards - like the Web Guidelines - and are providing web access to staff.
178 e-government initiatives [E-government initiatives are: infrastructure and standards for ICT, electronic services initiatives (including e-enabled business information and processes) undertaken individually, or jointly, by government agencies (ie delivering services via the Internet to businesses, people and stakeholders).] were reported in Round 2, an increase from 152 in Round 1. Most of these are currently in operation, or will be in 2004.
The main drivers were improved efficiency, cost effectiveness, and improved quality of service delivery.
Most initiatives related to the implementation of online services, as well as data security and privacy and the e-Government Interoperability Framework.
Agencies provided valuable feedback on major issues in their initiatives and the lessons they had learned, such as the importance of customer involvement in the planning and design of initiatives.
Background
The e-awareness survey provides a mechanism for agencies to inform the EGU about their e-initiatives, and can provide a basis for consultation on the alignment of these initiatives with the E-government Strategy.
Apart from providing a benchmark for the e-government programme as a whole, the results will provide an opportunity for agencies to see how their initiatives relate to those of other agencies, and to learn from experience across government.
- The 'Key Issues' questionnaire PDF [56 KB] provides a snapshot of the uptake of the e-government programme.
- The 'Agency Initiative' questionnaire PDF [52 KB] is for e-government initiatives that are underway or planned. This paper discusses the results of both questionnaires.
